The Council of Ministers of Ethiopia on September 3,2022 approved a policy document that allows the banking sector to be open to foreign investors. Banking, insurance and microfinance businesses were exclusively reserved for domestic investors by Investment Regulation No 474/2020 Article 4(1).
We are glad to announce Dagnachew & Mahlet Law Firm has been duly registered as a law firm as of 29 June 2022 as per Federal Advocacy Service Licensing and Administration Proclamation No 1249/2021 under Law Firm Registration No 0002/2014.
The Ministry of Justice has issued the first of its kind law firm registration certificate on April 06/2022 to Habesha Legal Advocates Limited Partnership (LP) under Law Firm Registration No 001/2014. The law firm licence is required to be renewed annually. The licence has been issued based on the Federal Advocacy Service Licencing and Administration Proclamation No 1249/2021.
The House of Peoples Representative has lifted the state of emergency enacted under Proclamation 5/2021 as of November 2, 2021 for a six month period of time. It has been said that the treat the country has faced could be,now, averted by the normal law enforcement mechanism; thus making the lifting of the state of emergency necessary. The lifting of the state of emergency shall be effective as of February 15,2022.
The House of Peoples Representative of FDRE has enacted as law two draft proclamations concerning government and private employees pension schemes on February 15,2022. The fund collected from pension could be invested in sectors that assure profit return. Similarly, for private employees pension age is fixed to be 60 years of age but with a possibility of renewal for five years twice till the age of 70.
The Ethiopian Federal Advocates Association has been established by law under Federal Advocacy Service Licencing and Administration Proclamation No 1249/2021. The Association made its first General Meeting on 23 January 2022. The General Meeting has chosen its Executive Committee, President and Vice-President. The General Meeting followed the procedure enshrined under Directive 32/2022. The Directive is issued by Ministry of Justice. The Directive is issued for the objective of choosing the organs of the Ethiopian Federal Advocates Association. As a result the first elected Executive Committee members are Hirut Melese, Filipos Aynalem, Liku Worku, Yosef Aemiro, Hossana Negash, Tideneqialesh Tesfa and Solomon Emiru. W/ro Sinidu Alemu became The President of the Association and Ato Tewodros Getachew became the Vice-President. DMLO wishes for the members of the Executive Committee, the President and Vice President of the Association a prosperous, successful and fruitful working tenure.

On December 29,2021, the FDRE House of People’s Representative has approved into legislation by a majority vote the establishment of National Dialogue Commission by Proclamation No.1265/2021. The Commission is tasked with implementing inclusive dialogue on national issues for the creation of national consensus and establishment of common grounds.
Ethiopia is under State of Emergency from November 2,2021 for a six month period of time. The Council of Ministers through Proclamation No 5/2021 issued a country wide state of emergency to avert the danger against the sovereignty and territorial Integrity of the Country.
